The Lakes of Albania project promotes sustainable and responsible tourism as a driver for inclusive local development in communities around Lake Shkodra and Lake Ohrid in Albania. The project supports local authorities, civil society organisations, and small tourism businesses in developing environmentally sustainable tourism services that protect natural ecosystems and cultural heritage.
Activities include strengthening local governance, promoting community participation, supporting youth and women’s entrepreneurship, and improving sustainable tourism practices. By fostering cooperation between stakeholders and promoting responsible tourism models, the project aims to create economic opportunities for local communities while ensuring the conservation of lake ecosystems and cultural landscapes.
Results include the development of sustainable tourism initiatives, strengthened local tourism governance, training for local entrepreneurs, and increased community participation in tourism planning in the lake regions.
