Germany Living Lab

On 18 and 19 June 2026, the Bluedots Germany Living Lab was held in Kiel. Over two days, participants explored strategies for digitalisation, sustainability and what Common Good means for the blue sector. 

 

Throughout the first day, participants engaged in a series of interactive workshops hosted by leading organisations from the blue economy. Atrium Environmental presented the idea of a changing mindset in the blue economy. Hostsharing eG introduced participants to cooperative and sustainable digital infrastructure, highlighting the importance of digital sovereignty and climate-friendly data services. Sea the Change facilitated discussions on sustainable and long lasting funding in the blue sector. The Fischereigenossenschaft Wismarbucht eG provided valuable insights into the realities and future of fisheries, showcasing how traditional sectors can benefit from innovation and cooperative practices.

 

On the second day, participants explored Kiel’s maritime innovation ecosystem through a series of guided site visits. They experienced the Seekuh marine litter collection vessel operated by One Earth – One Ocean, learned about sustainable seaweed and mussel cultivation at the Kieler Meeresfarm, and visited OceanBasis GmbH, where the certification process of the Common Good was presented. The programme concluded at the Waterkant Festival with a keynote by Christian Felber co-founder of the Economy for the Common Good. The festival offered participants the opportunity to connect with entrepreneurs, researchers, and innovators working on future-oriented solutions.

 

Participants also had the chance to experience the opening of Kieler Woche, the world’s largest sailing event and one of Germany’s biggest public festivals, on 19 June.
